遂にL/Oを迎えました、and also the On Site Suppliers began.

Toyota begins production of first Tundra trucks in San Antonio
San Antonio Business Journal - 12:12 PM CST Friday

Toyota Motor Corp. on Friday celebrated the official opening of its new Tundra assembly facility in South San Antonio.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Toyota honorary Chairman Dr. Shoichiro Toyoda and company President Katsuaki Watanabe were all on hand to witness the first of two all-new Tundra pickup trucks roll off San Antonio's assembly line.
Toyota (NYSE: TM) also used the occasion of the historic event to donate $600,000 to the National Center for Family Literacy.
The Japanese automaker will establish the Toyota Family Literacy Program in three schools in the Southwest Independent School District in San Antonio.
Toyota first announced plans to build the San Antonio plant in February 2003. Construction began later that year.
Originally estimated to cost $800 million, Toyota has since expanded capacity at the plant to handle production of 50,000 more trucks and added new infrastructure to accommodate 21 on-site suppliers.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas Inc.'s total investment in San Antonio now stands at $1.28 billion.

If the $300 million investment made by the 21 on-site suppliers is taken into account, the plant will have a nearly $1.6 billion impact on the city.

"As Toyota moves forward into a new era, this new plant is a dynamic symbol of our bright future," Watanabe says. "Here in Texas, we have assembled a great team of people, a great plant and a great truck. Along with great people, this is one of the most advanced automotive plants on the earth. It has the latest in technology and is using the best production and environmental techniques learned from 60 plants we operate around the world."
Toyota officials say the Tundras produced in San Antonio and Indiana will arrive in showrooms in February. The San Antonio plant alone has the capacity of producing 200,000 trucks a year.
"When Toyota announced it would build a plant in Texas, it was the shot in the arm we needed to transform our economy and begin creating jobs in Texas again," Perry says.
State and local officials offered Toyota a $133 million incentive package. It included $27 million from the state for job training and recruitment.
"Today employment is at an all-time high, we have a record state surplus and the Texas economy is leading the nation," Perry says. "Toyota is an important part of the Texas economic revival because their investment means thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in wages for Texas families."

Toyota unveils new pickup plant in Texas
BusinessWeek Online

NOV. 15 2:58 P.M. ET It's a sound that Detroit's "Big Three" automakers probably don't want to hear -- a new Toyota pickup truck rolling off the assembly line about every minute in Texas.
Toyota Motor Corp. unveiled its sprawling new manufacturing plant Wednesday, two days before it was to assemble its first Tundra. The highly automated facility will produce up to 200,000 pickups a year, as General Motors Corp., DaimlerChrysler AG and, especially Ford Motor Co., are trying to maintain their dominance in the segment.
If consumer demand pushes the plant south of San Antonio to operate at full capacity, which could happen by next spring, a truck will roll off the line an average of every 73 seconds, Toyota spokesman Mike Goss said. From beginning to end a truck will take 20 to 24 hours to complete, he added.
